Currently Most Toxic Anime Fanbases (2025)

1. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End

Reason: Elitist Behavior & Overhyping

After winning multiple "Anime of the Year" awards and being praised for its emotional storytelling, Frieren fans on social media (especially on Twitter/X and Reddit) began to treat it like it's untouchable.

Toxic Trait: Anyone who says it’s “slow” or “boring” is instantly attacked as "low IQ" or “not emotionally mature.”

Elitism has set in, especially among newer anime fans who use Frieren as proof they are “superior” for liking something “deep.”

2. Solo Leveling

Reason: Power Fantasy Overload & Fan Wars

Its popularity exploded after the anime adaptation, leading fans to aggressively compare it to mainstream shounen like Naruto, Bleach, and Demon Slayer.

Toxic Trait: Fans often spam “Solo Leveling solo’s your verse” in threads, even when it’s irrelevant.

Constant arguments happen between manhwa and anime fans about “Korean vs Japanese” supremacy.

3. One Piece

Reason: Gatekeeping & Excessive Defensiveness

With the success of the live-action adaptation and the nearing end of the manga, the fanbase has grown massively—but also more toxic.

Toxic Trait: If you criticize pacing, animation quality (like Wano filler), or say it’s “too long,” you're instantly labeled a “fake fan” or “attention seeker.”

Gatekeeping is high: If you haven’t watched all 1000+ episodes, your opinion “doesn’t count.”

4. Naruto

Reason: Nostalgia Blindness & Boruto Hate Spillover

The Naruto fandom is full of infighting between fans of Naruto, Sasuke, and even side characters like Sakura.

Toxic Trait: People still have endless power scaling debates (e.g., "Sasuke vs Gojo") and will fight over how bad Boruto is even if no one brings it up.

Huge shipping wars still exist, especially Naruto x Sasuke vs Naruto x Hinata camps.

5. Jujutsu Kaisen (Added by Research)

Reason: Manga Controversy & Character Death Reactions

With the shocking deaths and recent manga decisions by Gege Akutami, JJK fans have become extremely volatile.

Toxic Trait: Fans have harassed the author online for killing off major characters.

Split between “anime-only” vs “manga-readers” is becoming hostile, with spoilers intentionally posted to ruin the experience.

Shipping wars, especially involving Gojo, are intense and often turn into slander and fan-art battles.
