Shonen Anime: Overhyped or Just for Teens?

Let’s be real—the Big 3 and most shonen anime are just mid. Sure, there are exceptions like Attack on Titan (AOT) and Death Note, which actually stand out, but overall? There are hundreds of anime that are way better than these. Honestly, other genres often outshine shonen in terms of storytelling and depth. So why is shonen so popular? Is it just because the main audience is teenagers (like 10-15 years old)? I seriously don’t get why the Big 3 or even Dragon Ball Z are so hyped up. I mean, even a lot of romance anime are more compelling than most shonen. So what’s the deal?

And don’t even get me started on the action scenes in typical shonen anime—they’re so repetitive and boring. Sure, there are rare gems like AOT and Demon Slayer that actually deliver exciting and well-crafted action, but in the Big 3? It’s always the same old formula: hand signs, jujutsu, heroes and villains giving themselves pep talks, characters screaming at the top of their lungs... it’s just so overdone. Like, how many times can you watch the same thing before it gets old?
